A few wild locations in the UK where you can get closer to nature, and explore some
of Britain's beautiful countryside.
ENGLAND
Lake District
Description: There are 880 square miles of moorland and fell, as well as the 16 lakes which give the area its name. Boating, walking and climbing are all popular activities in the area. There are 1,800 miles of public rights of way. The central area features the wild and rugged
'Scafell Pike'.
Dartmoor
Description: Often described as the last great southern wilderness. Dartmoor covers 954 square kilometres (368 sq miles) consisting of two high boggy plateaus ringed by rocky
tors, separated by the basin of the Upper Dart, which leaves the Moor in a deep, narrow gorge-like valley. The heather and grass moorland, with valley woods, support a rich variety of wildlife.
 SCOTLAND
The Moray Firth Wildlife Centre
Description: Situated at the mouth of Scotland's most famous salmon river "The
Spey", the centre is dedicated to the conservation of this area of outstanding natural beauty for all visitors. Wildlife found at Spey Bay includes;
orcas, salmon, seals, otters, osprey, roe deer, wildfowl & wading birds, together with a host of other bird and mammal species including bottlenose dolphins, which come to feed and play around the river mouth.
WWT Caerlaverock
Description: Enjoy a wildlife spectacular at this WWT reserve as up to 24,000 barnacle geese arrive in winter, along with many whooper swans. In spring you may catch a glimpse of nesting barn owls via the hidden cameras, along with badgers and foxes. Address: WWT

 WALES
The Welsh Wildlife Centre
Description: Explore seven different natural habitats set in 265 acres of wild Wales. This is home to some of the rarest and most endangered species in Britain, including; otters, birds, wildflowers, badgers, butterflies and dragonflies. There is also a modern visitor centre with panoramic views over the reserve. Address:

Gilfach Nature Reserve
Description: A great reserve with a well laid-out network of sign-posted and waymarked trails. Many rare species of bird can be seen here including red kites, dippers and pied flycatchers.
 NORTHERN IRELAND
Lough Neagh Discovery Centre
Description: Award-winning visitor centre telling the story of Lough Neagh's wildlife and management. Situated at the tip of Oxford Island National Nature Reserve with five hides offering spectacularly close views of displaying great crested grebes and wintering wildfowl. Signposted from Exit 10, M1. Castle Espie Wildfowl and Wetlands Centre
Description: Castle Espie is located just 12 miles from Belfast, with a restaurant and gift shop. It is the WWT's only reserve in Northern Ireland, and an important gateway to Strangford
Lough. The reserve has year-round interest with three hides overlooking wader scrapes, deep lakes, Strangford Lough and Ireland's largest collection of wildfowl. Address: Castle
