Size: Up to 4mm
Distribution: Found mostly in the southern counties of England
Months seen: All year round but more frequently seen between May and August
Habitat: On low growing vegetation (often in shade) in woods, parks and gardens
Food: Small invertebrates
Special features: Zilla diodia is a small orb-weaving spider with distinctive chestnut and cream coloured markings on the abdomen. The carapace is a light brown with some white hairs on the head, and the legs are light brown with some dark bands. The males and females look the same, but the male has a smaller abdomen.
These spiders will normally be seen in the middle of their webs which have a distinctive latticed area in the central area.
