Size: Wingspan up to 34mm
Distribution: Found throughout most of the UK
Months seen: Adult moths fly from May to September
Habitat: Gardens, hedgerows, farmland, woodland edges and wasteground
Food: Nectar. The caterpillars feed on stinging nettles
Special features: Spectacle Moths are named after the hairs on their thorax, which when viewed from the front look like a pair of flying goggles. The wings are light grey with a darker grey band acros the middle of each forewing.
