This female black redstart was spotted in early April at Boultham Mere - only
the second one recorded at the reserve.
There are literally millions of these birds in Europe, but there's only a small wintering population of black redstarts,
and a few passage migrants, here in the UK. The R.S.P.B. estimate the breeding
population of this bird to be no more than 100 pairs in the UK.
The black redstart is an amber listed species.
