Scientific name: Linyphia triangularis
Size: Up to 6mm
Distribution: Found throughout the UK
Months seen: All year round
Habitat: On bushes, shrubs and other low growing vegetation
Food: Small invertebrates
Special features: Common Hammock-weavers can have variable markings on the white coloured abdomen but they frequently have the broad dark brown band on top with deeply serrated edges. This pattern is also present on the sides of the abdomen. The carapace features a thin brown tuning fork-shaped marking.
Common Hammock-weavers build a horizontal hammock-shaped sheet web - hence the name. The web features lines of silk running vertically up from the hammock which snare prey items. The spiders can usually be found upside-down on the underside of the web.
