The Best Time to Look for Glow-Worms

If you wait beside a glowing female you can sometimes see a male glow-worm
landing nearby.

The best time to look for glow worms is from around the middle of June to the middle of July, although this can vary from year to year and from place to place. The females normally start glowing at around ten o'clock at night, and can carry on until after midnight.
The larvae can be found at any time between April and October, sometimes during the daytime, however they are harder to spot at night as their glow is not as bright as the adult female.
You'll obviously need a torch for glow worm hunting. Female glow worms do not seem to be bothered by having such a bright light shone at them. They usually just carry on glowing while you get a better look.
