Female Glow-Worms

The female glow-worm is similar in appearance to the larva and the two are often
confused. Here are the differences to look for:
• They are up to 18mm long
• The females are dark brown coloured, almost black. The edges of each body
segment has a pale pink coloured line.
• The body segments are curved over the back.
• The six legs have five jointed feet at each end.
• The antennae are much longer than those on the larvae. Each one has eleven
sections.
• The females are never seen feeding.
• The females are normally seen at night, after dark, when they turn on their
tail lights to attract the male glow-worm.
