Size: Wingspan up to 40mm
Distribution: Found in most parts of England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Rare in Scotland
Months seen: June to August
Habitat: Woodlands, parks and gardens
Food: The larvae feed on bramble
Special features: Buff Arches moths have an intricate and unusual arrangement of beige, grey and white colours on their wings. It gives them an almost three dimensional appearance, as if they have folded wings (as seen on some naval military aircraft).
The caterpillars of Buff Arches moths are orange-brown with at least one white spot on each side of the body.
Buff Arches moths are readily attracted to light.
