Distribution: Found in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and southern Scotland
Months seen: All year round. Some birds migrate south in winter and others arrive here from colder parts of Europe
Habitat: Parks, gardens and woodland
Food: Invertebrates and berries. Will take suet at bird tables
Special features: Male Blackcaps are grey above and light grey below with a white patch below the tail. The head has a black cap which touches the tops of the eyes. The females and juveniles are an rusty brown to olive brown on top and lighter below with a white patch under the tail. The female has an orange-brown cap and the juveniles can have an orange-brown cap, a black cap or a mixture of both.
