Black Arches
Latin name: Lymantria monacha
Size: Wingspan up to 54mm.
Distribution: Found mainly in the southern half of the UK.
Months seen: July to September.
Habitat: Parks, woods and gardens.
Food: Caterpillars feed on oak leaves.
Special features: The black arches is a nocturnal moth which will readily
come to light at night.
The white wings feature black semicircular, and zig-zag markings which give this
moth its name. The abdomen features alternating pink and black bands.
