Latin name: Hyles gallii
Size: Wingspan approximately 70mm.
Distribution: Found in many parts of the U.K. More frequently in southern
and central parts of England.
Months seen: May to September.
Habitat: Gardens, meadows, roadside verges.
Food: Nectar. As the name suggests the caterpillars feed on bedstraws.
Special features: The bedstraw hawk-moth is an immigrant species. It is
similar to the Spurge Hawk-moth, but the Bedstraw Hawk-moth has a bolder brown
line along the leading edges of the wings and no pink markings on the trailing
edges of the wings.
