Latin name: Myotis mystacinus
Size: Wingspan up to 25cms.
Distribution: Found in England and Wales.
Months seen: April to October.
Food: Moths, flies and midges.
Habitat: Roosts in trees and buildings.
Echolocation Frequency: 40-50 kHz
Special features: A small bat, with shaggy fur which looks as if it has been highlighted. The wings are narrow and pointed. It is similar in appearance to the Brandt's bat.
The short
stubbly hairs around the eyes and nose give this bat its name.
