Latin name: Crangon crangon
Size: Can grow to 80mms.
Distribution: Found throughout the UK.
Months seen: All year round.
Habitat: Sandy beaches and estuaries.
Food: Will eat almost anything including plants, worms and crustaceans.
Special features: Common shrimps are the chameleons of the seashore. They have the ability to change their body colour to perfectly match their background.
Common shrimps have strong claws on their front pair of legs which allow them to catch and eat a wide variety of prey. Although they can grow to a length of 8cms
they are usually much smaller. They move around either by swimming, or walking on their back legs.
